Don’t use items on a cat that are meant for a dog. Cats are not the same as dogs, and products meant for dogs can make cats very ill. This particularly applies to flea products. If you have an outdoor cat, make sure he is fitted with a tag and collar. A lost cat is much easier to locate if they are properly tagged. The tag should contain your phone number as well as your cat’s name.

Cat claws are one of the worst enemies of your home and furniture. If you have problems with a cat that shreds furniture, invest in a durable scratching post. Entice them to scratch those items rather than your belongings. They may not take to it overnight, but they should eventually.

Your cat has sensitive ears, especially in the car when they’re stressed out. You may think it’s a good idea to listen to loud music on your stereo, but cats generally don’t enjoy this. Therefore, try to turn down your music or keep if off altogether so your cat has a better trip.

Create a tablecloth that your cats can use. Cat’s will often remove food from their bowl to eat it. This can lead to a big clean-up. Use a placemat under your cat’s bowl or cut some fabric to create a small tablecloth. Shake the placemat or cloth over the garbage regularly.

If you get a small kitten for your children, make sure they understand the rules ahead of time. Make sure your kids know where the cat can be. They should know that indoor cats can’t go outside. Setting rules in advances ensures understanding.

Cats love to be high up. To make your cat really happy, give it a place to safely survey its area. If a cat tower is not ideal, a simple shelf that does not have any breakable items can work. Make it extra comfortable by adding a blanket or cushion.

Regularly brush your cat’s hair. Brushing spreads natural oils throughout a cat’s fur, and also helps stimulate blood flow in their skin. Brushing will also help to remove loose hair. This prevents hairballs, which can cause choking, and builds up in the cat’s stomach from self grooming.

Feed your cat top quality food. Ensure that the food your cat eats is very high in protein. Steer clear of food made primarily of corn and fillers. Cats are carnivores so it is important for them to get enough animal protein in their diet.

Pay attention if your cat suddenly stops using the litter box properly. It may be the sign of an underlying medical issue. A change in where or how a cat urinates can signal a UTI or other health problem. Take the cat to the vet if it stops using the litter-box and let the vet diagnose the problem.
