Cats need to eat a balanced diet with proper vitamins and minerals, just like humans do. If your cat’s diet isn’t up to par, they may become overweight or malnourished. Continue reading to learn more about cat care.
Make sure your cat is always well groomed. You should comb and/or brush them on a regular basis. If yu do this quite often, it will help them stay clean. This will also cut down on shedding and can reduce issues with hairballs. A well-groomed feline looks great on their own, but also helps keep a home well-groomed too.
When your female cat is old enough, you should have her spayed. Whether or not she typically goes outside, she may escape while in heat and you might have kittens! Getting your cat spayed is a great way to stop this from going on.
Do not use dog products on your cat. Cats are not the same as dogs, and products meant for dogs can make cats very ill. When it comes to flea products this is particularly true. Flea products that are intended for a dog can kill a cat. Make sure to separate your cat from your dog after spraying.
Put a collar on any cats which go outside. This way, if your cat gets lost and is found by a stranger, that person will know how to contact you. The tag needs your phone number and cat’s name at the minimum.
You might find that your cat sleeps all day and wants to be active at night. The result is that they active while you’re sleeping. One way to deal with a kitten’s playful activity at night is just to shut your door. This will keep them from attacking your toes.
Sometimes children get too excited when playing with a new cat and may mishandle them. Make sure your child knows how to pet a cat. Show them what activities are appropriate and how to pick them up. Tell them that a cat’s bones need to be handled more gently than those of a dog.
Set a tablecloth under your cat’s food bowl. Sometimes cats prefer to remove food from their bowls and eat it from the floor. This can result in you having to clean up food outside its bowl if you don’t use a tablecloth. You can get a pet mat or use a piece of old fabric to put under it for easy cleanup.
Never punish a cat for a mess outside of its box. When this occurs, it is probably just a sign that the litter box wasn’t properly taken care of. Punishing your cat will just make them afraid of you later on.
Is your cat peeing all the time, sometimes in places that it shouldn’t? If so, you should talk to your veterinarian. This sort of behavior can be caused by urinary tract infections or other, more serious medical issues in your cat. A quick course of antibiotics can head off dangerous complications if you get your cat diagnosed and treated early enough.
If you have a cat who won’t use the litter box, try moving it someplace else. A cat has instincts that tell it when it goes to the bathroom it is vulnerable. This is why a box should be placed in an area that is quiet and safe. Some great examples of such locations are basements, laundry rooms or any other less frequently used room in your home.
A cat is what it eats. Your cat will live longer and be in better shape when you feed the right foods and avoid overfeeding. Do right by your cat and make sure it has a healthy diet.
