If you have never owned a dog before, the process of training your dog may seem to be an impossible task. The large number of resources available might make it hard for you to decide where to start. This article is designed to help you begin training your dog.

Rewards are essential to effective training. You should immediately reward your dog when they follow your command. Dogs will not understand why you are rewarding them if you wait too long to do it.

Timing is everything in training your dog, and you need to make sure you don’t overdo it. Start with a quick session initially, adding time with successive training periods. End the session as soon as your dog’s attention begins to stray.

Always reward good, calm behavior. When your dog responds to a command in the right way, you should reward this behavior when he is calm. If you are overly excited, the dog will become that way too. Stay calm, require calm from the dog, and give the reward.

Ensure that your dog gets plenty of exercise and stimulation. Dogs can get bored quite easily. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. A happy and well-exercised dog is an easily trained dog. Bring your dog along when you walk or jog.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn’t tempted to chew other things that aren’t okay to chew. Give it an actual chew toy in its place. Puppies sometimes chew objects while going through their teething phase. A wet cloth that has been frozen is perfect for them during this time.

Training your dog starts with patience. Patience is the best way to keep your dog from becoming confused and for you to remain calm. Remember that your pet desires to please you but he gets confused due to him not understanding what you want him to do.

Teach your dog no response is needed for the word ‘no’. Positive reinforcement is the best method for training your dog. When you say “no”, your dog does not understand how to react. Every dog and every situation is different. This means that their training must be tailored accordingly.

Try applying these tips to solve your issues. Putting these tips into action while training your pup can help the two of you forge a wonderful ongoing relationship.
