Having a happy and purring cat is a very enjoyable experience. This is relaxing for humans, and cats enjoy it too. Taking good care of your cat will keep it as happy as can be. This advice will make your cat happy more often.

Make sure you don’t allow your cat to be around drape cords. If the cat becomes caught in a loop, they could choke to death. This could kill them. Make sure drapery cords are kept back to avoid this.

Don’t give a cat a dog’s product. It is possible that a dog’s product could cause a serious adverse effect on a cat. This is especially true of flea products. Dog products that are flea related can kill a cat. Make sure to separate your cat from your dog after spraying.

An outdoor cat must always wear a tag on its collar. Cats can travel far, and a tag will help you find the cat easier if they get lost. Make sure at a minimum to put your pets name and your phone number on the tag.

It’s very important to get your cat microchipped. Indoor cats could run out your door or jump out the window. Tags and collars may be able to help you get your cat back, but cats can sometimes take these things off or they could get hung up on a tree or something. Microchips are minuscule, but can hold all the essential information about your cat and its hope. The chip will never be lost because it is under the skin and it can easily be read by any shelter or vet.

Keep your cat amused. Cats need stimulation. Too frequently this need is overlooked by owners. Bored cats can develop depression and other harmful health conditions. Give them exercise space and a lot of toys. If they are indoors, give them a scratching post or something to climb on.

You should be sure to place your pet’s litter box in a good location. Try and put it in an isolated area away from the cat bowl. The area should also be well ventilated so that it doesn’t smell too badly. You and your cat will greatly appreciate this.

Your cat probably spends a lot of time grooming himself to perfection. Long-haired cats often develop hairballs. To help prevent this from occurring, buy your cat special food. Some food are produced specifically for hairball reduction, which will help.

Many times, cat meds can be purchased on the internet for less than they’d cost if you got them from your vet. You can’t always get it online. But, if your cat is on a regular medication, you can save quite a bit by buying it online.

If you get a small kitten for your children, make sure they understand the rules ahead of time. Let your children know which areas of the house are off-limits for the cat. Advise your children not to let the cat out if it is to be an indoor cat. Establishing these boundaries ahead of time prevents any confusion.

Discuss any issues you have with your pet with others. You can solve most problems by yourself, but you might benefit from the experience of others. There are also forums on the Internet which cater to cat parents.

Often, you will find that a cat purrs when it is in a good mood. Cats are amazing animals that have a lot of love to give, and it’s not too hard to take care of them if you use the information shared here with you. If you prefer the happy, purring sound of your cat, be sure to give the above tips a try.
